Last night I was thinking of some good advice I could share with clients on insurance to make sure we are taking care of 100% of their insurance needs. A common saying on the internet came to mind. “Pics or it didn’t happen.” I think most of us have seen this said online, but if you haven’t here is the Urban Dictionary definition: “A phrase used on Internet forums to counter the vast range of unverifiable claims made by users. ”
Now, what does that have to do with insurance? Well there are few times that taking pictures is a really good idea. Why? Because you never want an insurance claims adjuster to be able to say to you Pics or it didn’t happen. Now, please note, our claims adjusters are awesome and really good to work with. Pictures just make things a lot easier on them and on you.
So when should you take pictures?
1) Today- If something ever does happen to your home and your stuff inside of it, you will want it to be replaced as it is now- both the house and your possessions. As much as you think you will, you will not be able to remember all of the stuff you own, or the exact construction of your home. If you have up to date pictures of the inside and outside of your home it will be easy to show an insurance adjuster what needs to be replaced. This will just make the whole process go a lot smoother.
2) Any time there is damage to your home that you think you might make a claim on. Whether it is wind blowing off your shingles, your bathroom sink leaks, or tree branches crash through your windows. You will want to be able to show the adjuster exactly what happened, because that will help your claim move that much faster.
3) Any time you are in an automobile accident. Take pictures of your car, the other person’s car, the buildings damaged, any skid marks, the other party’s insurance information and license plate number, and anything else you think might be relevant. The more pictures you have, the more helpful it will be to the adjuster in determining who was at fault in an accident and what will be paid out to you. Car accidents can be complicated in determining what exactly happened, these pictures will just help everything go more smooth.
Another awesome alternative to taking pictures is taking video. It could be a whole lot easier to do, and will end up in less files to save than the many pictures you will have to take.
Remember, Pics or Didn’t Happen.
If you are a client of ours we would be happy to save your pictures in your electronic file that we have for you.
