What is SR22 Insurance?

First of all, SR22 is not insurance at all. An SR22 is an insurance filing attached to your car insurance policy that will notify the requesting state that you have an active auto insurance policy that meets state minimum liability requirements. In the State of Utah, the minimum requirements are $25,000 bodily injury liability per person / $65,000 bodily injury liability per occurrence / $15,000 property damage liability.

Who Needs SR22 Insurance?

Have you been told you need to obtain SR22 Insurance in order to reinstate your driver’s license? Most commonly in Utah, SR22 Insurance is required following a DUI or Negligent Driving violation. SR22 Insurance will be required by the State of Utah for 3 years following the conviction date of the infraction.

What happens if I cancel my SR22 Insurance?

If SR22 insurance is required by your state and subsequently you cancel your SR22 insurance policy, an SR26 will be filed to cancel your SR22. After a nominal warning period, your driver’s license will automatically be suspended if you cancel your policy and do not replace it with another one that includes an SR22 filing.
